How would your organization contribute to improve nutrition in Myanmar?

Please select all relevant commitment actions from commitment area A to F which your organization can potentially act on to support national nutrition strategies and plans for improving nutrition. These commitments are voluntary. Selecting the relevant and potential actions areas will enable SBN Secretariate to effectively engage and work with your organization. The SBN team will work with your organization to further specify the commitment, defining actions and identify needs to take actions.

Invest in research and innovations in key areas of food system i.e. technology development & transfer, sustainable production of nutritionally important food vehicles, processing and retailing.

MARKET INCENTIVE MECHANISMS FOR NUTRITIOUS FOOD

Development of market differentiation mechanisms for nutritious and safe products where they stand out against unhealthy and less nutritious products

IMPROVEMENT OF STANDARDS

Influence to introduce best standards with respect to food safety, quality and fortification and labeling

In order to become an SBN member you must agree with and sign the following disclaimer.

In signing up to be a SBN member, the organizaMon commits to adhere to the following principles of engagement:

  • Businesses should support and respect the protection of internationally proclaimed human rights; and make sure that they are not complicit in human rights abuses.
  • Businesses should comply with UN guidance on health and nutrition and the International Code on Marketing of Breast Milk Substitutes* and World Health Assembly resolutions related to Maternal, Infant and Young Child Nutrition.
  • Businesses should uphold the freedom of association and the effective recognition of the right to collective bargaining.
  • Businesses should uphold the elimination of all forms of forced and compulsory labour; the effective abolition of child labour; and the elimination of discrimination in respect of employment and occupation.
  • Members of SBN and their subsidiaries cannot engage in the production of armaments, tobacco or pornography.
  • Businesses should support a precautionary approach to environmental challenges; undertake initiatives to promote greater environmental responsibility; and encourage the development and diffusion of environmentally friendly technologies.
  • Businesses should work against corruption in all its forms, including extortion and bribery.
  • Businesses should engage in national SBN surveys to assess their business development, technical assistance and finance needs (or support they can offer in these areas).
  • Businesses should support targeted actions and/or policies to address malnutrition in all its forms of (food insecurity, undernutrition and obesity/overweight) and diet-related Non-Communicable Diseases.
  • Businesses should assess the potential to introduce workplace nutrition commitments (including breastfeeding support).

Terms and Conditions of Membership

  • The membership form should be signed/approved by the Head of the Management in the country (CEO, Executive Director, Country Manager, Country Representative).
  • The membership will be given initially for 2 years period arer which it will be renewed. Renewal of membership would require an application for renewal. All membership renewal makers will be decided by the Executive Committee based on the given criteria for membership renewal.
  • There is no membership fee. The Network members may introduce a membership fee at a later stage upon mutual agreement.
  • All members will be given a membership certificate upon approval of the membership.
  • The list of members will be displayed on the webpage of SBN Myanmar. The members should submit a company briefly to update their details on the webpage.
  • There will be no fee or honoraria for all members to participate in the SBN meetings. All members will bear their own cost associated with participation.
  • The SBN members must notify the network through a leker or email if
    • a) the company introduced a new Breast Milk Substitute (BMS),
    • b) the company acquires another company that is involved in the production of BMS or
    • c) any other BMS producing company acquires the member company.
  • Any company can withdraw their membership by submitting a letter or email to the Chair and coordinator of the network.
  • Members cannot use the SBN logo and name on their products and marketing communications. However, business highlights their membership and affiliation with SBN on their websites, company official reports and stake holder engagementevents.
